reclaimed and recycled hardwood
Velho Brasil produces high-quality floors from century-old, recycled Brazilian hardwood.

Until the late 1960s, houses, mills and farms throughout Brasil were commonly constructed from wooden materials that were available in abundance. Coinciding with an explosive immigration growth in the 20 th century, many of the species came near extinction and locals started building houses and farms from stones.

Velho Brasil collects the old wood and recycles it, giving it a second life by turning it into high-quality floor parts. Our craftsmen conserve the durable, weather-beaten aspect of the timber which results in top-quality, exclusive and timeless wooden floor parts.

production process
After we have collected the hardwood from old barns, farms, mills and houses throughout the whole of Brasil, Velho Brasil carefully selects it by type and character. Some parts have a clear weather-beaten aspect, others seem brand new, depending on exposure to the weather and usage of the wood.

We then wash the wood and remove the nails before preparing the floor parts. After the parts are prepared, our trained specialists carefully remove the old painting with specially developed environment-friendly chemicals, in order to prepare the parts for its final finishing.

sizes and finishing
All our floor parts are prepared with a so-called "male-female" structure (both on horizontal as well as on vertical sides) which enables easy collocation and avoids the need for use of nails.

Velho Brasil has standardized the size of its floor parts so that all have a Length of between 100 and 300 cm, a width of 18, 20 or 24 cm and a thickness of 2 cm.

Please be aware that the usage of old wood means that some irregularities on the surface of the floor parts exists, on those parts that have a weather-beaten, rustic finishing. Varieties in colour pattern are also very common due to differences in origin and weather types of the different parts of Brasil where the woods were collected from. These irregularities and differences in colour give our floors its exclusive and typical rustic character.

We also carry other lines of reclaimed products which include Terri Mai and Eco Timber.
